Timetables, fares and rules change. Check the official source before you go.
Quick facts
- Coach (the direct option): 707 Inc lists Singapore pick-ups including Queen Street Bus Terminal, Bugis, Tampines, Boon Lay and Jurong East, with drop-offs at Melaka Sentral and several Melaka hotels. 707 estimates about 4 hours, depending on traffic and immigration. KKKL Express lists Singapore–Malacca departures at 7:30am and 8:00am. [7][8][9]
- Train: there is no train into Melaka city. Cross to JB Sentral, then take a KTMB ETS train to Pulau Sebang/Tampin (about 2 hours 25 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes on the current timetable), then a BAS.MY bus or a car into town. [1][3][6]
- Fly: Scoot flies Changi (SIN) to Melaka (MKZ). Scoot says the flight usually takes about 45 minutes. [13]
- Drive: a Singapore car needs a Malaysian VEP registration and VEP RFID tag, and pays a RM20 Road Charge on every entry into Malaysia, by Touch 'n Go only. PLUS expressway tolls are cashless too. [15][16][17]
- Arrival cards: all Singapore citizens are exempt from Malaysia's MDAC. Coming back, residents are exempt from the SG Arrival Card only at Woodlands and Tuas. If you fly home, you need to submit it. [18][19]
Option 1: direct coach
Several coach companies run straight from Singapore to Melaka. They clear Singapore and Malaysian immigration on the way, so bring your passport and luggage off the coach at both checkpoints. [8]
- 707's schedule page lists these Singapore boarding points for Malacca, among others: Queen Street Bus Terminal, Ban San Street, Bugis MRT Exit A, Jalan Besar MRT Exit A, Boon Lay, Jurong East (Venture Ave), Kovan Hub 206, Tampines, Yishun, Sengkang, Ang Mo Kio, Choa Chu Kang and Oxley BizHub (Tai Seng). Not every boarding point serves every drop-off.
- Drop-off points include Melaka Sentral, Hatten Hotel Malacca, Casa Del Rio Melaka Hotel, Estadia Hotel and Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall. 707 says Melaka Sentral is the first stop and city hotels come after.
- 707 gives the estimated travel time to Malacca as about 4 hours, depending on traffic and immigration. It asks passengers to arrive at the boarding point 30 minutes before departure.
KKKL Express [9]
- KKKL's official schedule lists Singapore → Malacca departures at 7:30am and 8:00am. Check the pick-up point with KKKL when you book.
Starmart Express [11]
- Starmart says its Singapore stops include Golden Mile Tower (where its Singapore office is) and Golden Mile Complex, and that it serves Malacca at Melaka Sentral. Check its booking site for a Singapore–Melaka departure on your date.
Fares depend on the operator, the pick-up and drop-off point and the date, so we don't list them. Check the operator's own site when you book.

Via Johor Bahru (Larkin)
If the direct coaches are full, you can split the trip:
- Take a public cross-border bus to Larkin Sentral in JB. LTA lists services 170, CW1, CW2, CW5, TS1, TS3, TS8, SJE and AC7 as ending at Larkin. [12] See the full list in our Johor Bahru day trip guide.
- From Larkin, KKKL's schedule lists 16 departures a day to Malacca, from 7:30am to 9:00pm. [10]
Option 2: train (Shuttle Tebrau + ETS)
There is no rail line into Melaka city. KTMB's ETS timetable has two stops with bus links to Melaka Sentral: Pulau Sebang/Tampin and Batang Melaka. [1][6]
Step 1: Singapore to JB Sentral
- The KTM Shuttle Tebrau runs between Woodlands Train Checkpoint and JB Sentral. The first train from Woodlands is at 08:30, arriving at JB Sentral at 08:35, so the 07:35 ETS below only works if you reach JB Sentral another way. [1][3]
- KTMB says your passport is your boarding pass. For JB Sentral → Woodlands, your passport needs at least 30 days' validity from the day of travel. [4]
- Full timetable, fares and booking rules: our KTM Shuttle Tebrau guide.
Step 2: ETS from JB Sentral to Pulau Sebang/Tampin
ETS timetable, effective 1 June 2026 (KTMB, updated 3 April 2026) [1]
| JB Sentral → Pulau Sebang/Tampin | Pulau Sebang/Tampin → JB Sentral |
|---|---|
| 07:35 → 10:18 | 09:42 → 12:15 |
| 08:40 → 11:14 | 12:57 → 15:20 |
| 09:55 → 12:19 | 15:32 → 17:55 |
| 11:25 → 13:49 | 17:02 → 19:35 |
| 12:45 → 15:19 | 19:22 → 21:55 |
| 15:00 → 17:34 | 19:45 → 22:30 |
| 16:20 → 18:54 | 21:47 → 00:20 (next day) |
Source: KTMB ETS timetable PDF [1]. These are the same JB Sentral–KL Sentral trains listed in our Singapore to Kuala Lumpur guide.
- New timetable from 1 January 2027: KTMB's ETS timetable effective 1 January 2027 (updated 15 October 2026) lists 9 northbound departures from JB Sentral that call at Batang Melaka and Pulau Sebang/Tampin, one of them on Fridays to Sundays only. Times change, so check it if you travel from January. [2]
- Book on https://online.ktmb.com.my. ETS/Intercity and Shuttle Tebrau are separate tabs, so you book the two legs separately. [5]
- We don't list ETS fares. Check them on KTMB's site when you book.
Step 3: Pulau Sebang/Tampin to Melaka city
- BAS.MY Melaka routes M20 and M21 run between Melaka Sentral and Tampin via Alor Gajah, and the BAS.MY Melaka network map marks a stop at Stesen Keretapi Pulau Sebang (the railway station). [6]
- M20 runs every day, roughly hourly: from Melaka Sentral 06:00–21:30 and from Tampin 07:00–21:30 (BAS.MY M20 timetable). [6]
- Routes M30 and M31 run between Melaka Sentral and Batang Melaka. We couldn't confirm on BAS.MY's pages that they stop at the station itself, so ask the driver. [6]
- You can also book a taxi or e-hailing car. We don't quote those fares.
Option 3: fly
- Scoot flies Singapore (SIN) to Malacca (MKZ) from Changi Terminal 1. Scoot says the flight usually takes about 45 minutes, and its check-in counters close 60 minutes before departure. [13]
- Check Scoot's booking search for flight days and times. We don't quote airfares.
- Flying back to Changi? Residents need the SG Arrival Card too, because the resident exemption only covers Woodlands and Tuas. [19]

Option 4: drive
Leaving and re-entering Singapore (LTA) [14]
- Pay tolls by inserting your stored-value card (NETS CashCard/Motoring Card or CEPAS card) at the immigration booth, even if the barrier is already up. There are no top-up machines at the checkpoints.
- Cars: Woodlands S$0.80 to leave and no toll to come back. Tuas S$2.10 each way.
- Before you leave you need at least a ¾ tank of fuel, printed copies of your insurance certificate and road-tax validity, and a valid driving licence.
Entering Malaysia (JPJ) [15][16]
- VEP registration at https://vep.jpj.gov.my is mandatory for all foreign vehicles entering Malaysia. Entering without a valid VEP is an offence, with a fine of up to RM2,000 or up to 6 months' jail on conviction. [15]
- Private cars pay a RM20 Road Charge per entry. Pay by Touch 'n Go card or the TnG eWallet. No cash. [16]
- Foreign cars must use the JPJ-issued VEP RFID tag, not a Touch 'n Go RFID tag. [15]
- Only vehicles with valid road tax and insurance may enter Malaysia. A foreign vehicle can stay in Malaysia for no more than 90 days. [15]
On the PLUS expressway [17]
- PLUS expressways no longer accept cash. A Touch 'n Go card works at all PLUS toll plazas.
- Use the same payment method, and the same Touch 'n Go card, at entry and exit.
- Top up your Touch 'n Go card before you join the expressway. PLUS has a journey planner and toll calculator on its site.
Touch 'n Go top-up points [16]
- JPJ lists R&R stops, toll booths, petrol stations and convenience stores as places to reload a Touch 'n Go card. Top-up counters accept only ringgit, so carry some MYR.
We don't list Malaysian expressway tolls, exits or driving times to Melaka, because we couldn't confirm them on an operator page this run. For the VEP RFID tag steps see our Malaysia VEP RFID guide. For checkpoint tolls and the 2027 Singapore VEP changes, see our Causeway & Second Link tolls guide.

In Melaka: what to see and where to stay
- UNESCO World Heritage: Melaka is half of the World Heritage site "Melaka and George Town, Historic Cities of the Straits of Malacca", inscribed in 2008. UNESCO says Melaka's government buildings, churches, squares and fortifications show its history from the 15th-century Malay sultanate through the Portuguese and Dutch periods. [20]
- Where to stay: if you're coming by coach, it helps to stay near your drop-off. 707 drops at Melaka Sentral and at several hotels, including Hatten Hotel Malacca and Casa Del Rio Melaka Hotel. [7] We don't list hotel prices.
- Tourism tax: Malaysia charges a tourism tax of RM10 per room per night. Malaysian citizens and Malaysian permanent residents are exempt, so Singaporean visitors pay it. [21]

Arrival cards
Entering Malaysia: MDAC
- Since 1 January 2024 the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) has been mandatory. Submit it within 3 days before you arrive in Malaysia, unless you are exempt. [18]
- Exempt: all citizens of Singapore; holders of diplomatic and official passports; Malaysian Permanent Residents and Malaysian Long Term Pass holders; and some Brunei, Thai and Indonesian border-pass holders. [18]
- Submit it only on the official portal: https://imigresen-online.imi.gov.my/mdac/main [18]
Returning to Singapore: SG Arrival Card (SGAC)
- All travellers must submit the SGAC with its electronic health declaration before arriving in Singapore. The exceptions are travellers in transit who don't clear immigration, and residents (Singapore citizens, PRs and Long-Term Pass holders) travelling through Woodlands and Tuas Checkpoints. [19]
- Submit it free, within 3 days before you arrive (counting the day of arrival), on ICA's SGAC e-Service or the MyICA Mobile app. One submission can cover up to 3 trips. [19]
Mobile data
You may want data in Malaysia for maps, ride bookings or the Touch 'n Go eWallet. Check your Singapore plan's roaming terms, or use a Malaysia eSIM.
Malaysia eSIM options: Check Klook for Malaysia eSIM data plans, Airalo Malaysia eSIM, Saily Malaysia eSIM or Yesim Malaysia eSIM. (affiliate links)
Checklist
- Passport with enough validity for your transport (30 days for the Shuttle Tebrau leg back to Woodlands [4]; check your coach operator's or airline's rules).
- MDAC submitted within 3 days before arrival, unless you are exempt (all Singapore citizens are). [18]
- SG Arrival Card for the trip home if you are a foreign visitor, or if you fly back (residents too). [19]
- Coach: be at the boarding point early (707 asks for 30 minutes). [8]
- Train: Shuttle Tebrau and ETS tickets booked separately on https://online.ktmb.com.my, plus a plan for the last stretch from Pulau Sebang/Tampin. [5][6]
- Car: VEP RFID tag activated, a Touch 'n Go card with ringgit for the RM20 Road Charge and PLUS tolls, a topped-up Singapore stored-value card, a ¾ tank of fuel, and printed insurance and road-tax copies. [14][15][16][17]
